Let's come to the top of the Mt.Fuji
What words do you know about Japan ?Ninja,Geisya,Samurai,Bushi,Sushi ...and Fujiyama ?
In July and August,You can climb the Mt.Fuji(Fujiyama) even if you are not a skilled climber.
In Japan , meny meny peoples (including 100-year-old men ,7-year-old children ,a lot of foreigners) climb up during summer season. How meny? It is about 200,000! They climb up the Mt.Fuji, and see "Goraikou"(Japanese sunrise) and some of them say "Banzai" when sun rises.
For Japanese, Mt.Fuji has religeous meanings.
Is that interesting? Do you want to climb up the Mt.Fuji?
But climb up without any information is a little dangerous.
OK,I'll show you some useful informations about climing Mt.Fuji.
Whereis : Shizuoka prefecture/Yamanashi prefecture,Japan. (It takes about 3-4 hours from Tokyo) Elevation: 3,776m (The highest mountain in Japan, and Mt.Fuji is volcano!) Temperature at the top : 0 to 10 degree C (in July,August) (is about 40 degree F,I suggest.) Annual climbers: about 200,000.Typical planning:
Most of all climb up afternoon, stay in hut during the night,go up to the top before the sun rises, and climb down next day's afternoon.
If you have strong legs,You can climb up during the night and climb down before afternoon. ...But,I cannot recommend. It is so hard.
I think, it is more better that climb up before noon , reach to the hut noon , spend afternoon in the hut by reading some books or so on ,stay in the hut during the night, see Goraikou(sunrise) and go up to the top before noon, and climb down afternoon.
*Even if you think you don't have to wear long sleeve wear, you should bring it with you.
At the top of mountain, you might feel freeze and want more something to wear.
Remember, temperature at the top will be 0 degree C(40 degree F).
*Something warm. Even if you feel warm when you walk, you might feel chilly when you stop.
Sweater and wind breaker are recommended.
*You should wear thick socks. It will prevent from getting blister.
2.Sturdy,high-top shoes.Hiking boots are recommended.Mountain boots are nice.
3.Rain suits - I can never recommend you climb up without rain suits. There are a few(annual one or two) persons who GO to Japanese higher mountains. They climb up without rain suits and when they get drenched and brown by the wind ,they'll suffer from hipporsamia, and die.
Not only an umbrella but also a poncho will not effective. It often rains from beneath and it may brow strong breeze. You should bring 2-piece type rain suits.
(I recommend separate rain suits made from Gore-Tex.)
A rain suits is also available for preventing from chilly.
4.Flashlight and Extra battery - Even if you climb at daytime, you should have it.In case of accident, it will turn into night. and you may not see the climing path without it.
5.Toilet paper and towel - There is no available papers at every toilet.
6.Water - You should bring at least 1 litter and a half of water.I recommend three 500ml PET bottle of water. There are no water on the Mt.Fuji.
7.Enough food for two meals, extra food for the case of emergency, and some snacks -Chocorate are not recommended. Chocorate will melt.It is very cold during night, but it is very hot during the day.
8.Medical goods.-medicine(for headache,cold,sprain,blister...)
10.some extra money - for the case of accident.(e.g. stromy weather, happen to climb down wrong "Tozanguchi",in case of you cannot caught the bus, etc.)
11.trekking stick might be useful.
*There are no laws forbid your off-season climing, but you should climb only in July or August. Except July and August, only skilled climbers can climb the Mt.Fuji. *You should walk(climb) fixed slow pace. *You DO NOT forget where you enter the climing path. There are four "tozanguchi"(entry/exit) and there are many person who climb down wrong tozanguchi. "5 goume" is a general name of tozanguchi."(fuji)yoshida guchi","subashiri guchi","gotenba guchi" and "fujinomiya guchi" are the identifical name of tozanguchi. *NEVER litter.NEVER pick the flowers.DO NOT climb with your dog(s) *You NEVER climb only yourself. You should climb with your friend(s).In case of accident, your friend helps you. *You DO NOT stray from the climing path. *You NEVER NEVER LEAVE THE RAIN GEAR! *Be careful for the falling rock. and You DO NOT kick the rocks.your kick will cause falling rock, and will injure(or even kill) the below person. *In case of a lightning storm, go to the nearest hut. *There are a lot of foreigners. so you don't have to worry about language probrem... Most of Japanese cannot speak English ,but some can.avarage Japanese's writing/reading skills are higher than speaking/hearing(and Japanese's (English) pronounciation is very poor) so I think you should bring some sheet of paper and write down what you want to say when you talk to Japanese and Japanese cannot understand what you say.Facilities:
*There are large parking lot at every tozanguchi(entry/exit),but you can hardly find free space if you reach at late time and/or during the weekend. *There are some hut and you can rest.but they are so crowded and probably you cannot sleep very well. You should sleep well last day before climing. If you climb up during the weekend ,you should reserve the hut.and I can hardly recommend you climb up during the weekend. *There are some toll toilet in every huts. They are not neat and not available toilet paper. *You can buy some food and/or water in every huts (only in daytime). But it is very expensive. *There are some taxi(or bus) at every tozanguchi(entry/exit). But you have to notice the bus's timetable. You don't have to pay any chips for using any taxi. *There are some travel tour which come to the top of the Mt.Fuji. if you want to more information about the tour , please contact to travel bureau.Huts:
